What Is a Floor Spring Used For?

What Is a Floor Spring Used For?

A floor spring is a mechanical device used to control the opening and closing of doors, particularly heavy or high-traffic doors such as those in commercial buildings, hotels, and public facilities. The floor spring is installed in the floor and connected to the door via a pivot mechanism. Floor springs provide smooth and controlled door movement, ensuring that doors close automatically and securely after being opened. They often feature adjustable closing speeds and hold-open functions, enhancing convenience and safety. Floor springs are especially useful for glass doors, double-action doors, and other specialized door types where traditional hinges and closers are inadequate.

How to Adjust a Floor Spring?

How to Adjust a Floor Spring?

Adjusting a floor spring involves several steps. First, locate the adjustment screws, typically found on the cover plate. Use a screwdriver to turn the screws: one controls the closing speed, and the other adjusts the latching speed. Turn clockwise to slow down the door and counterclockwise to speed it up. For height adjustment, remove the door and use the height adjustment screw on the floor spring mechanism. Reinstall the door and test its operation, making further adjustments as needed. Always refer to the manufacturer's manual for specific instructions, as designs can vary. Ensure the door closes smoothly and securely.
